OVERVIEW

The teaching of ATP (Technical-Practical Activities) - Adapted Physical Activity for the Diversables is a 2 CFU module (20 hours of practical exercises), associated with the scientific-disciplinary sector M-EDF/02, is focused on the field application and direct experimentation of the theoretical methodologies learned in the main module.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The goal of teaching is to deepen, in the light of theoretical knowledge, the methodologies for implementing adapted physical activity programs through technical-practical activities for individuals with disabilities.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The key objective of the practical module is to deepen, in light of theoretical knowledge, the methodologies for applying adapted physical activity programs through technical-practical activities in diversions.

At the end of the 2 CFU module you will be able to:

Apply exercise protocols for motor, sensory, and intellectual-relational disabilities.
Change the workload, intensity, and starting postures in real time (scaling) based on user feedback.
Safely manage your training setting, preventing the risk of injury or fall.
Properly use small assistive equipment and technologies specific to motor adaptation.

PREREQUISITES

Theoretical knowledge acquired through lectures.

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching is entirely focused on Experimental Learning:

Active disability simulation: Students take turns using aids (prams, bandages) to test the biomechanical impact of the environment and understand how to calibrate their verbal cues.
Peer Teaching (Mutual Teaching): Students alternate in the roles of Kinesiologist (who leads the session) and Special User (who performs the adapted protocol), receiving immediate feedback from the instructor.

Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, should contact the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liaise and arrange the specific teaching methods so that the learning aims and outcomes may be met.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Being a module of only technical-practical activities (ATP), the hours are divided into interactive workshops:

Lab 1: Positioning and transfer techniques (4 hours)
Practice on safety grips, manual assistance with postural transitions (e.g. from wheelchair to chair/carpet) and safe movement of the subject with severe motor limitations.
Lab 2: Adaptation and progressions for motor disabilities (4 hours)
Practical exercises for strengthening the core and stabilizing muscles, adapted station circuits, and respiratory gymnastics for myelolesions, stroke outcomes, and hemiparesis.
Lab 3: Strategies for Intellectual-Relational Disabilities (4 hours)
Conduction simulation with cognitive load management: task decomposition techniques (task analysis), routine structuring to minimize anxiety, and motivational strategies.
Lab 4: Orientation and Inclusion for Sensory Disabilities (4 hours)
Practical exercises in the dark (with bandages) to test proprioceptive guidance, the use of acoustic indicators, or high-contrast color targets for visual and hearing impairments.
Lab 5: Exam Simulation and Problem Solving (4 hours)

Guided execution of real clinical cases extrapolated from the memorandums of understanding of the regional ASLs.
