AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The teaching aims to: know the mental processes related to the biological bases in athletes; understand the peculiar characteristics of the athlete by analyzing theories and scientific methods for the identification of the psychological profile of the athlete himself, based both on the behavior detectable in the sports field and on the psychological interaction patterns rooted in his personality structure; evaluate the ways in which the athlete acquires and uses information, learns new knowledge, makes decisions, modifies attention styles towards the environment. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES In-depth analysis of the main physiological and psychological processes underlying cognitive and emotional states related to sports practice and athlete performance. Analysis of the mechanisms through which athletes acquire, process, and use information, learn new skills, make decisions, regulate attentional processes, and adapt their behavior to the demands of the sports environment. Acquisition of the knowledge and tools necessary to understand, outline, and recognize the athlete's psychological profile, with particular reference to the cognitive, emotional, motivational, and behavioral characteristics that influence sporting performance. TEACHING METHODS Lectures and collective discussion. Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, should contact the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liaise and arrange the specific teaching methods so that the learning aims and outcomes may be met. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course includes 16 hours of frontal teaching, during which the teacher will illustrate the main cognitive, emotional, and behavioral processes studied in psychobiology, with particular reference to their application in the sports field. The main research methods and tools used to analyze and define the athlete's psychological profile will also be explored in depth.
