CODE 117646 ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/2027 CREDITS 2 cfu anno 2 SCIENZE E TECNICHE DELLO SPORT 11890 (LM-68 R) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR M-EDF/02 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 2° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: MATCH ANALYSIS E COACHING AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the teaching is to acquire knowledge on the analysis of the main technical sports gestures in competition, with particular reference to the individual creation of reports regarding the analysis of the match and the individual characteristics of male and female players using IT supports. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide students with the methodological knowledge and practical skills required to analyze sports performance during competition. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of systematic observation methods, video analysis, and technical and tactical performance indicators in both team and individual sports. Students will develop the ability to collect, interpret, and apply performance-related information to support the evaluation of athletes and inform coaching and training processes. At the end of the course, the student will have to: apply appropriate methods and tools for the analysis of sports performance during competition; identify and interpret the main performance indicators; analyze match data and video footage; perform statistical analyses of performance data; use the results of performance analysis to assess athletes’ and teams’ performance and support decision-making within the coaching staff. TEACHING METHODS The course consists of face-to-face lectures held in the classroom. These lectures are designed to deliver theoretical content and promote critical engagement with the topics covered. Active interaction between the lecturer and students is encouraged through discussions, case study analyses, and, where appropriate, interdisciplinary insights. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Fundamentals of Performance Analysis: Principles of performance and match analysis, definition of the performance model, analysis of competition characteristics, and the role of performance analysis within the coaching staff. Performance Analysis Methods: Main performance analysis methods: notational analysis, time & motion analysis, video analysis, and data analysis, with a focus on data collection and interpretation. Performance Monitoring: Analysis of key performance indicators, competition times, effort distribution, and mechanical parameters using GPS, accelerometers, and other technological tools. Biomechanical Analysis: Principles of biomechanical performance analysis and use of optoelectronic systems and measurement tools to assess movement and sport-specific skills. Internal Load and Data Integration: Monitoring of internal load through heart rate, lactate, and oxygen consumption, with integration of technical, biomechanical, and physiological data for performance assessment. This module is part of the integrated course “Match Analysis and Coaching”. Consequently, the examination for this module must be taken simultaneously with the other two modules of the integrated course on the same examination date. The written test will comprise two open-ended questions and will have a duration of 20 minutes. A minimum score of 18/30 is required to pass this part of the examination. The integrated course examination is considered passed only if all three individual modules achieve a minimum score of 18/30. The final grade for the integrated course will be calculated as the weighted average of the scores obtained in each of the three modules.
