CODE 118191 ACADEMIC YEAR 2026/2027 CREDITS 5 cfu anno 2 SAFE TRANSPORT AND LOGISTICS ENGINEERING 11920 (LM-26 R) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/05 LANGUAGE English TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester OVERVIEW Urban mobility systems represent a specific class of transport systems, characterized by high levels of complexity, strong interactions between demand and supply, and significant impacts on environmental sustainability and quality of life in urban areas. In this context, Sustainable Urban Mobility (SUM) provides the principles and methodologies to design and manage urban transport systems with a focus on efficiency, accessibility, and environmental sustainability, also promoting the adoption of innovative solutions. The course addresses the fundamental components of sustainable urban mobility, including public transport systems, shared mobility, and pedestrian and bicycle networks, and introduces the main tools for their analysis and functional design. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The objective of the course is to introduce the motivations and fundamental principles underlying sustainable urban mobility and to provide both theoretical and practical tools for the analysis and design of innovative solutions. This objective will be pursued by providing students with the knowledge to design and analyse public transport systems, electric mobility solutions, and pedestrian and bicycle mobility networks. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES After the teaching unit, students will understand the basic concepts of sustainable urban mobility, as well as the main models and techniques for its functional design. PREREQUISITES Students must be familiar with the contents of the courses: Transport Systems Planning Traffic Flow Theory TEACHING METHODS Lectures consist of class activities, with theory and exercises. Students with a certified learning disability (DSA), a disability, or other special educational needs are invited to contact the instructor at the beginning of the course to discuss teaching and examination arrangements that, while respecting the learning objectives of the course, take individual learning needs into account and provide appropriate accommodations. Please also note that requests for exam accommodations or exemptions must be submitted – using the form available at this link: https://modulionline.unige.it/richiesta-adattamenti#no-back– to the course professor, the DIME contact person (federico.scarpa@unige.it), and the relevant office (inclusione.studenti@info.unige.it) at least seven working days before the examination, in accordance with the guidelines available at this link: https://unige.it/disabilita-dsa/richiesta-servizi SYLLABUS/CONTENT The teaching unit is structured into the following chapters: Fundamentals of Urban Mobility Fundamentals of Sustainable Urban Transport Systems Fundamentals of Local Public Transport RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY The study materials will be provided by the lecturers and will be made available on AulaWeb. Further guidance regarding the reference bibliography and any materials available to specific categories of students (working students, non-attending students, and students with certified learning disorders, disabilities, or other special educational needs) will be provided by the professor at the beginning of the course.
