OVERVIEW

Hematology course will provide the cellular and molecular bases to understand the development of neoplastic and non neoplastic disorders. In addition, clinical parametrs and laboratory tools will be presented to implement the correct diagnostic approach to the main hemopathies

AIMS AND CONTENT

 KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

 To understand  the structure and function of normal hematopoiesis; 2) to recognize the main abnormalities associated with hematological disorders; 3) to understand the main cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the development of neoplastic diseases.

 

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

 

To be able to perform a proper diagnostic approach in patients suspected to be affected by a blood disease; 2) to be able to collect properly a clinical history; 3) to be able to perform physical examination

TEACHING METHODS

Hematology course includes hematology classes (=21 hours) and attendance of the clinical ward

The hematopoietc system

-Anemias

-Mieloproliferative disorders

-Myelodysplastic syndromes

-Acute leukemias

-Lymphomas

-chronic lymphocitic leukemia

-Multiple myeloma

-Waldenstrom disease

-Emorragic and thrombotic disorders

-Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy

-principles of blood transfusion

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The final test includes 62 questions (31 hematology and 31 oncology) with multiple choice (only one is correct). Half point will be assigned to each correct answer and the students are requested to answer correctly to 36 question to pass the exam. Wrong questions will be counted 0.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Students will be only evaluated through the final test. The “Laude” will be attributed to students answering correctly all questions.
