Molecular and biological basis of the pathogenesis induced by bacterium. Ecology and physiology of infection. Mechanisms of invasiveness, colonization and resistance.

TEACHING METHODS

Most of the classes are magistral classes in which the students discuss the different themes with the professor. The students expose a seminar of a selected article.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

• Indigenous microbiota: role in the defense. First line host defense.
• Microbial factors that promote colonization and invasion: Flagellum, pillis and not fimbrial adhesin. Iron uptake mechanisms. Resistance to antimicrobial peptides. Degradation immunoglobulins. Motility. Biofilms.
• Strategies to evade and survive into the host. Strategies to avoid complement action and phagocytosis. Mechanisms for living intracellularly. Mechanisms for surviving to phagocytosis. Mechanisms to evade the immune response of the host. Dissemination
