OVERVIEW

The module REUMATOLOGIA develops a thorough understanding of the main diseases of the Locomotive Apparatus , in Rheumatology, so that the Physiotherapist can prevent  the disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The module REUMATOLOGIA delivers what happens when injuries occur and how to treat and manage them. The unit aims to provide students with the knowledge of the patient's healing process, to define an appropriate rehabilitation action according to the biomedical and psycho-social model. As with all areas of physiotherapy, the assessment is very important; then, with manual therapy , exercise prescription and other therapies, musculoskeletal physiotherapy improves and prevents the disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

LEARNING OUTCOMES (FURTHER INFO)

The course Reumatologia aims to provide students the ability to understand and solve issues related to:

  • Know the rheumatic diseases and the clinical diagnosis of the patient;
  • identify the main physioterapic  contraindications.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures (10 hours).

Lectures are performed in all the teaching location by owners teachers and are explained with slides and videos. The Students/Teachers percentage report allows a direct comparison and an use of collaborative methodology, discussion about rehabilitation and working groups.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Some of the most common rheumatic diseases include:

  1. Chronic degenerative rheumatic diseases (osteoarthritis)
  2. Muscoloskeletal disease (soft tissue)
  3. Metabolic bone diseases (osteoporosis)
  4. Regional pain sindrome
  5. Chronic Inflammatory Diseases:
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Spondyloarthritides
  • Connective tissue Diseases
  • Crystal-Induced Arthropathy( Gout -Chondrocalcinosis-Calcium hydroxyapatite crystal induced arthropathy)
  • Reactive arthritis-Infective arthritis

Information and advice to the rheumatic patient.
Physiopathological approach to the rehabilitation of the rheumatic patient.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral interview; the oral examination will be mainly directed to ensure a proper understanding of the theory discussed in the course.

Available 7 examination date.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The assessment method is explained during the lessons.

The exam consists of an oral interview based on the lectures and on the program, to evaluate knowledge and critical thinking of the student.

Pre-requisites: some knowledge on fundamentals of Anatomy and Pathology

The exam can be supported if the student passed all the 1st year examinations.

 

The exam is preliminary to the Tirocinio II (2nd year internship exam)
