In the last years we have witnessed a strong scientific progress that has improved the diagnosis and therapy of many gastroenterological and liver diseases. The major examples are the discovery of Helicobacter pylori infection, which causes ulcer and its eradication leads to complete cure by avoiding complications, particularly bleeding, and surgical operations and modern anti-viral therapies against virus C with marked reduction of cirrhosis, hepatocarcinoma and liver transplantation-
The student will gain an adequate overall knowledge of digestive and hepatic diseases including classification, etiopathogenesis, pathophysiology and clinics by means of plenary lessons and practical exercises.
Teaching is based on plenary lessons and practical exercises at patients' beds. This will be implemented by the frequency of ambulatories concerning digestive pathophysiology and digestive endoscopy and the stay in operating theatres
The calendar of plenary lessons includes about 30 arguments that are related to the most important gastroenterological, pancreatic and liver diseases. They deal with mainly infectious diseases, acid-related disorders, inflammatory bowel conditions, functional alterations and neoplastic pathology. The program comprises particularly the main diagnostic and therapeutic features that allow us to control the above diseases.
