    OVERVIEW

    Course description

    The course of Contemporary History and Sources of the Territory is an examination of the first year of the course of study of Tourism Sciences, Department of Economics, Imperia Campus. During the course the main themes of contemporary history will be dealt with, with specific in-depth studies on the history of the environment in Italy, on local history and on aspects of European integration, with particular reference to the historical and cultural contexts and to the sources and methodology of historical research.

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    This course provides students with the fundamental coordinates of contemporary history, especially of the twentieth century, deepening specific themes of Italian history also useful to understand the local dynamics through the use of specific sources.

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

    The course aims to provide students with a general overview of contemporary history by placing it in a multilevel dimension, both in connection with local history and the environmental and territorial dimension, and with reference to global phenomena and interactions, especially with reference to the process of European integration. A part will also be devoted to historical sources at local level and their use for the planning of cultural routes and events aimed at the care and enhancement of the territory.

    The course seeks to offer an "ecological" approach aimed at favouring the establishment of interactions and connections between environmental history and contemporary history in a multilevel perspective, paying particular attention to local historical sources (institutional documents, audiovisuals, memoirs, etc.) as resources and skills to be promoted for the development of cultural activities linked to the territory and communities in a framework of overall social, cultural and economic enhancement and eco-sustainable tourism.

    TEACHING METHODS

    Face-to-face lessons (possible different methods depending on the health and epidemiological situation - Covid-19)

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    The programme will focus on the most relevant issues and topics of contemporary history, on the use of territorial historiographic sources and with a specific attention to the relationship between man and environment, to history as collective heritage, to the links between history and landscape, to case studies, to the relationship between the travel experience and memoirs as well as to the reflection on the modalities and meanings of tourism with reference to history and eco-sustainability.

    For students attending the course, it will be possible to replace certain parts of the indicated texts with notes or even materials made available on the Aulaweb or with in-depth studies and specific presentations. Specific instructions will be provided during the course.
