AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is providing the principles of the functional design of transport infrastructures and services, as well as the tools for the evaluation of their social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

After the course, the student shall know and shall be able to apply, through dedicated optimization and simulations software tools, basic and advanced notions about:

  • transport demand estimation
  • transport systems simulation
  • road network functional design
  • public transport systems design

PREREQUISITES

Students should be familiar with probability, transport supply, demand, and assignment models.

TEACHING METHODS

Class lectures (approximately 60% of the lessons) and software laboratory exercises (approximately 40% of the lessons).

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

  1. Transport demand direct estimation (survey) and reliability assessment
  2. Model-based estimation: identification demand model parameters
  3. Origin/Destination (O/D) matrix update and calibration
  4. Transport systems macro-simulation and micro-simulation
  5. Road networks design
  6. Public transport systems design
  7. Cost/Benefit analysis
