The course is dedicated to the study of the territory. In particular, political geography contextualizes the way in which human communities organize themselves and regulate their relations on the territory. Economic geography explains how the distribution of resources and population on earth affect socio-economic and environmental development.
The course aims to provide basic knowledge both in political and economic components. The student will therefore be able to identify and understand the consequences of political action on territory, above all in terms of renovation in space organization. At the same time, the student will be able to analyse the new intersections of economic action in the context of globalization at different levels of the geographical scale and by type of economic stakeholders

The course consists of lectures, for a total of 36 hours (6 CFU), aimed at presenting and studying the main notions of economic and political geography through the use of case studies. The materials used during the lessons will be uploaded to AulaWeb together with other materials (reports, links to databases, etc.) aimed at defining the quantitative aspects of the phenomena studied.
Occasionally, researchers or experts in the discipline (Italian and foreign) may also be invited to hold seminars to study specific aspects of the problems dealt with.
Depending on the epidemiological situation, if necessary, the course will be carried out in distance learning: all the details will be published in this case in the AulaWeb of the course.
The program is divided into three parts:
FIRST PART - Tools and models to interpret the demographic and migratory dynamics. The role of languages and religions to ensure socio-demographic balance.
SECOND PART - The concept of state and nation and the importance of land and maritime borders to legitimize the very existence of the state. Role and position of capital cities.
THIRD ART - Evolution of production sectors, transport and communication networks
Materials uploaded to AulaWeb, supplemented by what was presented by the teacher in the classroom and appropriately summarized in the notes taken in class. In the absence of exhaustive notes, students are required to use the textbook
