    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    The course provides skills on electromagnetic sensing and diagnostics techniques, with reference both to the implementation aspects (theoretical, hardware, numerical / software), and to their use in different applicative fields.

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

    The course provides skills electromagnetic sensing and diagnostic systems and techniques, with particular reference to: radar systems for surveillance and monitoring; ground penetrating radar; X-ray and magnetic resonance imaging; microwave imaging and diagnostics; electrical impedance tomography. Both operating principles and implementation aspects of these techniques are covered by the course, as well as their use in different application areas (also with practical exercises). The goal is to enable students to know how to design and use electromagnetic sensors and diagnostic systems.

    Lectures and laboratory experiences.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    Review of EM propagation and scattering. Radar systems for surveillance and monitoring: operating principles and applications. Ground penetrating radar: Basic principles, signal processing techniques, and applications. X-ray imaging: Basic principles, computed tomography, and applications. Magnetic resonance imaging: principles of operation and imaging techniques. Microwave imaging and diagnostics: systems, methods, and applications. Electrical impedance tomography.
