    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

Main objective is to provide the students with an adequate and updated knowledge of the chemistry (synthesis, structure, reactivity) of heterocyclic systems, in agreement with their importance and interest in both the biological/pharmacological and the industrial/technological fields (as testified by the continuous appearance of research reports in the area). At the same time, starting from the behavior of some representative heterocycles, essential knowledge of reaction mechanisms and relevant kinetic laws will be furnished.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Classifications, nomenclature, properties, reactivity of heterocyclic compounds. Classic and modern synthetic approaches. In particolar, the main heteroaromatic systems will be treated more  extensively, while for cycles of small (3 and 4 atoms) or medium (7 and 8) size, only the more important fetures will be highlighted.

Also the forming cycles methodologies will be discussed and classified as cyclizations or cycloadditions, proceeding according to ionic or pericyclic mechanisms.

    RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

    No particular texts are recommended.
