    OVERVIEW

    Radiology teaching is part of the Surgery-II course with the aim of making medical students familiar with the appropriate use of diagnostic imaging, interventional procedures and radiation therapy in the field of surgical and orthopaedic diseases.

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    In this final stage of teaching, medical students will be able to combine and integrate the knowledge and skills acquired over the previous years. Students trained in the course will be able to ask for the appropriate imaging modalities in the context of surgical pathologies. Interventional procedures and the main procedures of radiation therapy will be also addressed.

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    A series of narrated case-based modules reviewing the role of diagnostic imaging, interventional procedures and use of radiation therapy in the field of surgical and orthopaedic diseases will be discussed in an open and interactive way as problem-solving exercises:

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

    The final exam is an integral part of the exam of Surgery-II and Musculoskeletal Diseases. It's an oral exam that will test the candidate's ability to plan a correct imaging approach in a case pertinent to surgical and musculoskeletal pathology.

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

    The exam will test the candidate's ability to apply theorical learning to practice by means of an interactive discussion of how and why she/he should select the individual imaging modalities as regard the patient and the clinical context.
