    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

To know the metabolic pathways and the relationships among by anabolic and catabolic pathway. To know the elements of base of absorption and  elimination of the drug and their mechanism of actionTo know the metabolic pathways and the relationships among by anabolic and catabolic pathway. To know the elements of base of absorption and  elimination of the drug and their mechanism of action

    AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

To acquire the basic concepts of Pharmacokinetic. The knowledge will be specifically in demand: the mechanisms that regulate the absorption of the drugs, with respect in the route of administration; the distribution, the metabolism and the elimination of the drugs. To identify the characteristics of the principal pharmaceutical forms related to the administration of the therapy (oral, intramuscular, intravenous..). To know the main pharmacokinetic parameters and their clinical meaning. To know the main aspects of Pharmacodynamics; the concepts of tolerance, intolerance, therapeutic index and their clinical aspects. To understand the glossary of the Summary of product characteristics ('SmPC')  of the drugs and their interpretation. To know the use of some classes of agents which are used in the treatment of infectious diseases, with particular regard to therapeutic appropriateness, the assessments of adverse reactions of antibiotic, antiviral and antifungal agents.

To acquire The basic concepts on A.N.S. active drugs.

To acquire the capability of drug doses computation (oral and paretheral administration)

    TEACHING METHODS

The frontal lessons are held with the aid of slides that are made available to all the students on Aulaweb. Particular attention will be focused on the solution of exercises of drug doses computation.

    EXAMS

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

Pharmacology exam consists in a written test with 15 multiple choice questions with up to 5 answers and 5 open-ended questions. The duration of the test is 60 minutes. The student must correctly answer to 9 multiple choice questions and to 3 open-ended questions, without penalty for the wrong answers. The final mark is unique for the Integrated Course Biochemistry and Pharmacology .

    ASSESSMENT METHODS

The evaluation of  the knowledge and skills that the students have acquired will be checked with a written test. In every session of examination, the questions will be changed and they could be also different  among students during the same examination, to avoid any possible irregularities. Usually, the questions are structured with 5 multiple choice answers and only one of them will be the correct one. The exam  is composed also with open-ended questions that ask to carry out simple mathematical  calculations (proportions, fractions, etc). Any passive memorization is not recommended, as well as any irregularity during the exam is totally discouraged. On the other hand a comprehensive understanding of clinical matter is valorized, as well as the ability to solve problems with clinical and mathematical reasoning.
