Basics of history

The teaching consists of lectures, for a total of 54 hours. Multimedia supports will be used and specific workshop lessons are planned on historical sources and their use in a didactic key.

Particular attention will be given to the public use of history, deepening the relationship between history and memory (collective and subjective). The problem of historical sources, both quantitative and qualitative, their presence on the territory and the methods of treatment and analysis, will be the focus of teaching: the sources represent not only the materials favored by the historian, but effective educational tools are revealed usable , with due care, in all school orders.

The following teaching modules are also planned:

1) "From the Archives to the Teaching Lab" (6 hours)

Edited by Dr. Chiara Patuano, pedagogist, Ligurian Popular Writing Archive Working Group (

The modular unit, divided into three two-hour meetings, intends to describe and analyze according to a bottom-up history workshop approach the educational and didactic perspectives and strategies that are used for teaching history in preschool and elementary school. Particular attention will be given to the history of migration: through the use of the self-narrative testimonies of Italian migrants (letters, diaries, memoirs, autobiographies...) preserved at the Archivio Ligure della Scrittura Popolare (ALSP), students will be invited to reflect on the choices, impressions and expectations of those who left, highlighting the widespread culture of mobility. During the meetings, moments of critical reflection on the teaching of history will be offered, highlighting positivities and criticalities of this discipline. The design of worksheets, games and workshop activities through the experimentation of active teaching strategies and methodologies will also be required.

2) "At school on legality and the fight against mafias” (6 hours)

By Dr. Erika Li Volsi, teacher, Giuseppe Impastato documentation center, No Mafia Memorial Museum (

The module, divided into three two-hour meetings, aims to enhance the processes of education for legality, with particular reference to social systems characterised by a high presence of corruption and organised crime. The premise is that the fight against corruption and crime must be achieved by operating on a vast system of educational, cultural and social complicity. To this end, a number of analytical categories of educational and social, legal and political thought will be considered, from Giovanni Falcone to Paolo Borsellino, from Leonardo Sciascia to Don Pino Puglisi, from Giuseppe Fava to Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, from Giuseppe Impastato to Danilo Dolci, in order to understand the mechanisms that hinder the processes of education and civil progress. The meetings include targeted paths: from the attribution of the sense of justice to the development of the values of solidarity and freedom. A pathway to contextualise the educational movements, active citizenship and anti-mafia present above all in the world of youth, bearers of a new public ethics
