EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral examination.
Please refer to the Examination Procedures described under the same heading in the Teaching Outlines of each of the two modules.

ATTENTION: The grade will only be recorded in the career when both modules have been taken. Article 5 of the Academic Regulations 2021-2022 stipulates that examinations relating to integrated LART/01, L-ART/02 and L-ART/03, each consisting of two modules, may be taken in different calls but, mandatorily, within the same academic year.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

For the Monumental Arts of the European Middle Ages module
The examination is oral and involves the use of images from the textbooks and those used in class, made available to the students.
Assessment concerns knowledge and skills.
The following will be tested: the ability to respond in an adherent and coherent manner with the proposed question; the possession of specific language skills; specific knowledge of the topics covered; the ability to read and decode images; the ability to refer them to an artist and/or an era and to argue the judgement; the ability to correlate artistic products and cultural-historical phenomena, in the broadest sense of the term.
Grades above the pass mark will be awarded according to the degree of achievement of these knowledge and skills.
As far as the allocation of votes is concerned:

1. In order to obtain excellence (grades from 28 inclusive to 30 cum laude), the candidate will have to reveal, with excellent expressive ability: strong ability to recognise and classify the proposed artefacts; ability to establish connections, including interdisciplinary ones; willingness and aptitude for in-depth study, in-depth and organic vision of the problems and topics covered by the course
2. acceptable but mainly mnemonic knowledge, superficial analysis and correct but not always appropriate language will lead to an assessment between good (grades 25 to 27 inclusive) and satisfactory (grades 23 to 24);
3. A sometimes lacunar knowledge, a superficial understanding, an intermittent ability to place the proposed artistic documents chronologically and historically and simplistic or approximate modes of expression may be considered sufficient (18-22);
4. blatant and extensive gaps in the preparation, inappropriate language, lack of reference points with regard to the historical-formal collocation of works and themes presented in class will be assessed negatively.

For the applied arts module of the Middle Ages
The examination will take place in oral form to test the student's ability to apply the knowledge acquired, to analyse the materials taught, to understand their characteristics in artistic and cultural terms, and to make connections and comparisons through the use of the concepts and terms proper to the discipline.
The main assessment parameters will be the degree of comprehension of the materials taught (images and texts), the way in which categories or individual works are analysed, the ability to deal with the topics studied with an autonomous critical sense, and the appropriateness of exposition.
A sufficiency will be deemed to have been achieved if the student demonstrates that he or she has mastered the fundamental notions conveyed in the course, as regards the main production processes of suntorial art works and their historical development, also in relation to the cardinal works and general periodisation.
Excellence will be deemed to have been achieved if the student demonstrates a secure mastery of the syllabus presented in class, showing that he/she has deepened and elaborated on the themes of the course with a personal critical contribution, argued with propriety of language.
