The exam for theory module attenders and non-attenders is the same. ASSESSMENT METHODS The linguistics module is assessed through a written paper. The paper is divided into two parts. In order to pass the test, it is necessary to get a pass at least in the first part. The first part includes the following tasks: describing vowels and consonants; transcribing parts of or whole words phonemically; converting phonemic transcriptions into “written English”; completing utterances using appropriate strong and/or weak forms; morphological analysis. The words for transcription are taken from a list given to students at the beginning of the module. The second part includes the following tasks: transcribing words phonetically; analysing the syllabic structure of monosyllabic words; dividing words into syllables; dividing utterances into feet; identifying the tonic structure of an utterance; open questions on the syllabus. The practical module is assessed through a translation paper from and into Italian, a text analysis task and a writing task on a general topic.
