SYLLABUS/CONTENT

PROGRAM

The course will focus on the development of theatrical writing in the French context with specific reference to the schools and literary movements that followed one another from 1600 to the present day. Constant reference will be made to the reading of theoretical texts and dramaturgical texts. Through the in-depth reading of four pieces we will enter into the mechanisms of theatrical writing and analyze the specificities of the texts and will compare them with the rendering of some Italian versions.

Molière, L'école des femmes (1662)
Marivaux, L'Ile des esclaves (1725)
Nathalie Sarraute, Pour un oui ou pour un non (1982)
Yasmina Reza, Le Dieu du carnage (2006)

The syllabus is unique: all lectures will be recorded and all teaching materials will be made available to all students, so it is not deemed appropriate to distinguish the syllabus between frequent and non-attending students.
