    OVERVIEW

    The first part of the course aims to provide an in-depth knowledge of the
    structure and main varieties of contemporary Italian, within a brief sketch of
    its historical development. The second part focuses on the main tenets of text
    linguistics, as well as on the development of planning, drafting and revising
    techniques of non-literary text-types.
     

    AIMS AND CONTENT

    LEARNING OUTCOMES

    It concerns the scientific study of contemporary Italian in its geographical,
    social and situational varieties, focusing on the structures, functions and
    linguistic usage; it is integrated by an interactive workshop, aimed at
    promoting techniques of text analysis and drafting of Italian for professional
    purposes [part distance course].
     

    TEACHING METHODS

    Two contact hours plus a distance hour every week, in which students will
    prepare a short presentation, to be given in the second part of the course. All
    course material will be on AulaWeb. Students with SLD are advised to contact the teacher at the start of the course.
     

    SYLLABUS/CONTENT

    In the first part of the course the main features of contemporary Italian will
    be considered in its phonetic and phonological, morphological, syntactic,
    semantic and pragmatic aspects. Moreover, the main varieties forming a
    sociolinguistic profile of Italian will be looked at - diatopic, diamesic,
    diastratic and diaphasic, also in a diachronic perspective.
    In the second part, starting from key concepts in text-linguistics, the main
    features of the written text will be investigated in its diverse typologies, to
    then focus on the phases of its production.

    EXAMS

    EXAM DESCRIPTION

    The assessment consists in a written test on the course contents and skills.
    Questions will focus on each of the following fields: phonetics, morpho-syntax,
    lexicon and varieties of the Italian language, as well as the production and
    analysis of a short text.
