LEARNING OUTCOMES

To learn how to use computers and some application programs through theoretical lessons and practical exercises.In particular, basic notions are provided for the use of computers in scientific applications (hardware, software, information, representation, text editors, spreadsheets and presentations).

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to introduce the student to the use of the LibreOffice suite (in particular the Calc spreadsheet), with the aim of making him able to

• use Calc to process and display data, such as those acquired from databases available on internet.
• use Write to produce simple scientific documents.

PREREQUISITES

In order to use spreadsheets properly, the student must have basic mathematical skills and reasoning and analytical skills, typically covered by mathematics courses in the first year.

TEACHING METHODS

Teaching takes place over 10-12 weeks, each of which normally includes either 2 hours of classroom lessons or 3 hours of guided laboratory (which could take place, at least in part, remotely using the teams platform).

During the semester there will be an assessment done during class time (with booking and submission on AulaWeb) and home exercises (working in a group).

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course includes introductory lessons followed by guided workshops on how to

• find information online
• process and visualize data using Calc
• prepare documents using Writer
