The attendance and participation in the planned activities (lectures and in the laboratory) will allow the student to acquire the general knowledge in the field of monitoring and data management necessary to study the environmental problems, support the activities of evaluation, planning, processing and application of the procedures for the prevention of risks and for the management and protection of the environment and human health in the field of environmental sciences with particular reference to the marine environment
The teaching consists of lectures and laboratory activities. As activities are planned for the application of the acquired knowledge, practical and methodological activities, attendance at lectures and laboratory exercises is strongly recommended.
Lectures in the classroom are delivered through multimedia presentations.
Laboratory exercises aim to apply the theoretical knowledge aquired during the lectures in the classroom.
The lab activities take place in specific classrooms of the DISTAV.
The course syllabus includes an analysis of the monitoring activities in the coastal and offshore marine environment in relation to the various international, European, national and local directives. The study of instrumentation, new technologies, and the methods of analysis used in the field of marine monitoring. The analysis of data processing methods and information systems in the context of national and international marine environmental monitoring programs. Laboratory activities and trials of monitoring systems in field (at sea)
All the slides used during the lectures and the other teaching material will be available at the end of each cycle of lessons / laboratory activities together with other selected papers in pdf format.

Lessons of the first term will start from 23 September 2019 and will end before 17th January 2020. For lessons starting date and timetable go to the following link: https://easyacademy.unige.it/portalestudenti/
The exam consists of a written test. The written test (open and multiple-choice test) is related to the topics and practical activities carried out during the lessons and laboratory exercises. The exam is passed if the student obtains a grade greater than or equal to 18.
Two exam dates will be available in the winter session (January-February) and four in the summer session (June, July, September).
Details on how to prepare for the exam and the degree of the required detail for each topic will be provided at the beginning of the course and confirmed during lectures and exercises.
The student must be able to integrate the knowledge acquired during the lectures with the skills acquired during the workshop activities in specific cases treated during the course.
