OVERVIEW

The course presents the basic notions and concepts related to the analysis and control of dynamic systems.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course provides the main knowledge about dynamical systems, their different representations, their properties and the concept of feedback.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The learning outcomes of the course refer to the capacity of:

  • understanding the main features of the system dynamics
  • knowing the formal representations of continuous-time linear time-invariant dynamic systems
  • knowing the main properties of continuous-time linear time-invariant dynamic systems (stability, reachability, observability)
  • designing actions to stabilize or improve system performance of continuous-time linear time-invariant systems by means of algebraic feedback

PREREQUISITES

The course prerequisites refer to the contents of the following courses: Mathematics; Physics, Geometry.

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching methods consist in lessons by the teacher and in team working activities in which the students will solve and discuss some exercises under the supervision of the teacher

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam is oral. During the exam, the student has to solve some numerical exercises and to discuss the theoretical aspects related to such exercises.

Students with learning disorders will be allowed to use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis in agreement with the delegate of the Engineering courses in the Committee for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam aims to verify the following aspects about the knowledge of the student:

- knowledge regarding the main characteristics and properties of dynamic systems and the design of feedback strategies

- ability to apply this knowledge to numerical examples and simple physical systems

The evaluation of the exam will take into account not only the knowledge of the contents addressed in the course but also the reasoning and critical analysis skills of the student, as well as his/her capability to use a technical lexicon appropriate to the context.
