The course aims to train the student on the scientific and critical theory and on the practice of producing drawings, and images for the contemporary architectural project.
The course provides knowledge and skills for the deepening and experimentation of representation methodologies for the critical analysis of the pre-existence and for the architectural design in its different scalar dimensions. With this in mind, the representation is seen as a way of addressing the complexity of the project, intended as an ex-novo act of creation or as a system of operations functional to cognitive processes affirming its value as an autonomous aesthetic subject expressive of forms of critical research.
Students will face a theoretical and practical path that will lead them to know the scientific fundamentals (geometric, visual and perceptive) and the technical methods of using updated tools for creating models, drawings and images (parametric modeling, photo insertion, rendering, panoramic photography, video.
During the course, an exercise is proposed which consists of analysing and reworking an architectural project, whether built or not, through parametric modeling tools and in its representation, through rendering techniques and photo insertion, including panoramic ones. The reworking must include an improvement in accessibility intended as a more comprehensive degree of use for all.
Students will acquire not only the technical tools, but also the critical ones that will enable them to motivate and illustrate the different processing stages.
/
The lessons are divided into lectures, and interactive lessons (critical discussions) to enhance active and collaborative teaching. We will produce models, drawings, photographs and images.
It is also given importance to the acquisition of transversal (or soft) skills, particularly the ability to argue critically about their choices and work organisation in groups.
THE COURSE ON AULAWEB IS UPDATED WEEKLY.
Geometry and parametric models for architecture
-Theoretical and applicative aspects of modelling: mathematical and numerical representation, parametric modeling
-Curved lines and surfaces: modeling and use in architecture
-Particular geometric aspects (Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometries, invariants and projective and topological geometry, symmetry and attractor) and their applications to architecture
-Tessellations in plane and space and their application in the transition from ideal geometric forms to real architectural forms
Architecture and context
- Generation and insertion of a configuration in a context
- Photographic insertion
- Panoramic photography
- Hybrid configurations of drawings, photographs and images
- Rendering, animation and video
The course uses pieces extracts of texts available in the library, including:

All class schedules are posted on the EasyAcademy portal.
The final exam consists in the delivery and discussion of the elaboration carried out during the course, with arguments related to the lessons.
FINAL ASSESSMENT - Takes into account:
- curriculum of deliveries and revisions for attending students or, for those who do not attend, periodic processing to be agreed and reviewed with the teachers;
- evaluation of the final delivery;
-evaluation of the oral discussion based on the knowledge of the properly chosen scientific and critical foundations.
