OVERVIEW

The teaching of Anatomical Pathology in the Integrated Course of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a unique teaching model in our school (INTEGRATED INTERDISCIPLINARY COURSE). The frontal lessons of Anatomical Pathology are in fact integrated with those of Gynecology and Obstetrics in the didactical modules related to the individual themes with the copresence of the teachers of both disciplines. This didactic method allows for active dialogue and an interchange of observations.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Aim of this course is gaining knowledge on the physiopathological, clinical and psycho-analytical issues concerning fertility and reproductive health, pregnancy and its evolution, giving birth in its complexity. The student will also have to acquire the ability to recognize the most common summaries of obstetrics and gynecology, focusing on basic preventive and therapeutic measures and identifying the conditions that need the specialist's professional support. The course includes the development of specific clinical skills and includes professional activities.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

A first part of the treatment will focus on obstetrical pathology with reference to placenta and fetal pathology.

All abnormalities in ovulation and placental implantation will be preliminarily treated, thus laying the foundations for the understanding of maternal-embryonic and maternal-fetal exchange mechanisms. The placental, infectious pathologies, and the ones consequent to clinical or obvious motherly diseases (diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, etc.) will be presented.

In the end, the alterations of the pregnant uterus will be treated.

It closes the discussion of the first part of a series of observations on the pathological anatomy of late spontaneous abortions, fetal endouterine deaths and perinatal deaths.

A second part of the discussion will be directed to gynecological disease with reference to both non-neoplastic (predominantly dystrophic / dysfunctional and inflammatory) pathology and to neoplastic pathology and therefore more tied to oncology.

For the individual anatomical compartments, preneoplastic and neoplastic lesions will be treated, characterizing the various histologic types, growth patterns, and morphological, immunophenotypic and molecular characteristics (oncogenes, suppressor genes, growth factors) and genetics that allow to delineate prognostic factors and then define their biological behavior.
