AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The choice of a destination is strongly influenced by experiences and personality characteristics of those who are about to embark on a journey and, in part, conditioned by the economic availability. The course aims to analyze the main types of personality, converting them according to the possible tourist interests in order to better define the target audience to address a specific tourist offer. This will allow from one hand to direct the offer to the more receptive public to the other to draw the supply and the services of a location, so as to meet the expectations of tourists chosen as target.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student will be able:
- to know the main personality's characteristics of individuals
- to link personality traits, needs and expectations together
- identify the different types of tourists
- design appropriate tourist offers for different types of tourists

TEACHING METHODS

Frequency of at least 65% of lessons. [in case it is not possible, for health reasons, to take the lessons in presence, they will be delivered remotely in streaming mode].

Use of slides and materials available on the AulaWeb site. Use of tools such as Wooclap and/or H5P for classroom exercises

Students with DSA certification, disability or other special educational needs are advised to contact the teacher at the beginning of the course to agree on teaching and examination methods which, in accordance with the teaching objectives, take into account individual learning methods and provide suitable compensatory tools. Please note that the Department's contact person for disability support is Prof. Laura Traverso [laura.traverso@unige.it]

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

The course aims to provide basic knowledge about personality theories and their relationships with needs and expectations. Starting from these basic notions we will try to define different types of tourists and to identify the most likely needs and desires in the field of tourism on the basis of which to define possible target populations and design the tourist offer. This psychological approach aims to contribute to the design of the sustainable tourism offer by encouraging the meeting between the needs/possibilities of the territory and the needs/expectations of specific groups of tourists.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

2 written tests, a multiple-choice test and a simulated interview with potential clients, both conducted in the AulaWeb environment.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Written test (multiple-choice test on the computer in AulaWeb environment) at the end of the course which focuses on texts 1 and 2 and on what was said in class and not covered by the texts. Those who pass the test can take a decision test based on the simulation of an interview with potential clients of a tourist agency. The average of the marks obtained in the two written tests represents the final grade. The "reduced" programme is valid only for end-of-course tests and summer appeals. As of the September appeal, the distinction between frequent and non-attendants is no longer valid.

It is allowed to take the exam up to 5 times more than the end of the course check. Failure to pass the exam on the fourth and fifth attempts will result in the registration of the negative result and, consequently, the impossibility of taking the exam in the academic year 2023-24. The student who runs into this eventuality will be able to take the exam again in the academic year 2024-25.

There will be no jump on appeal.
