OVERVIEW

The module aims at applying key knowldge of the economics principles into the Touristic market, mainly focusing on the impact the tourism on the regional economy and the role of transport in shaping tourism markets.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims at providing an in depth information on different kinds of tourism, their evolution over time and the determinants of the demand for tourism. The role of territorial accessibility will also be investigated, namely in establishing the boundaries for potential tourism market areas within an economic region, with a look to both physical or incorporeal infrastructure and to the supply of services. Finally, students will be given a full information about the production of transport services with a specific focus on passenger transportation.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The student will be capable of correctly assessing economics elements (e.g. inflation, derived demand, income) and how these factors impact on different forms of tourism. Moreover, both transport infrastructure and services will be assessed in order to investigate how they can impact on different tourism market organisations.

Traditional lectures and tutorials

 

Due the Covid pandemic, the teaching strategy might be subject to modifications in accordance with the relevant University regulation. 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Main topics discussed are:

- Principle of Tourism Economics

- Demand determinants

- Supply determinants

- Elasticity

- Pricing and Tourism Markets

- Accessibility and impact on regional economy

- Growth and Sustainability

- Transport

 

A core topic of discussion will be the impact of UNSDGs application in different contexts on the tourism industry.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

Main Textbook is "Economia del Turismo e delle Destinazioni" (Candela e Figini).

Further reading materials and alternative (English) textbooks will be discussed and presented during the first lecture of the module.

EXAM DESCRIPTION

Oral exam and in-class activity.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The oral exam will be focused on the discussion of key concepts and basic elements of transport and tourism economics. The In class acitivty will be dedicated to the application of key concepts on real case studies.
