OVERVIEW

The Course approaches the knowledge of flora and vegetation as fundamental elements of habitat formation. It can be known, defined and mapped. The current methods in order to conserve habitats to keep them intact and to implement restoration methods are presented. Flora and vegetation are excellent tools for environmental monitoring, achievable through different techniques on a case-by-case basis.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course has the following learning goals:

  • Acquisition of the bases for the study of flora and habitat for environmental monitoring through different methods.
  • Basic elements of GIS cartography and its application for floristic and vegetational cartography.
  • Different methods of environmental monitoring.

PREREQUISITES

Students are required to have a basic knowledge of systematic botany and plant ecology

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The overall grade of the 95069 course will derive from the mathematical average of the marks obtained in the various tests of the two modules. Partial grades are valid for the current academic year.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Regular attendance is strongly recommended especially for field exercises.
