New drugs, new materials and new processes can derive from the targeted application of knowledge deriving from the study of marine biodiversity. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The main applications in biotechnology and nanotechnology deriving from the biomolecular and structural study of marine organisms. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Acquisition of knowledge and skills related to the main approaches of modern biotechnologies applied to marine organisms. Examples taken from the marine ecosystem as a model for obtaining biotechnological and nanotechnological products or processes. PREREQUISITES Basic knowledge of biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology TEACHING METHODS seminars and lessons, educational visits and a laboratory experience SYLLABUS/CONTENT Modern biotechnologies, plant and animal biotechnologies Marine mushrooms Cellulose, carrageenan, polymers MUDS project Biomass production from seaweed in plants, sectors of algae use, biotechnology transformation techniques for algae Agrobacterium-mediated algae transformation techniques, agrobacteriu use techniques in algae Management techniques of non-photosynthetic microorganisms Nature as a model.
