The multidisciplinary approach, in line with the European directives (e.g., Marine Strategy), allows adressing the main topics of the marine environment, thus allowing an analysis and an integrated assessment of the biotic and abiotic components that govern natural marine systems. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The teaching aims to provide the knowledge necessary to describe and understand the marine environment, both in the biological component and in the physical one. The training includes the application of the principles and methods of landscape ecology and geomorphology, the latter aimed at understanding the natural mechanisms that condition and control marine biocoenoses. Particular emphasis will be placed on the characterization of the coastal marine environment and on priority habitats. The teaching is divided into two modules: Marine Seascape Ecology and Marine Bio-Geomorphology. PREREQUISITES No specific requirements are needed. TEACHERS AND EXAM BOARD MONICA MONTEFALCONE Ricevimento: Students are received by appointment, agreed directly with the lecturer by telephone (010 3538065), by email (monica.montefalcone@unige.it) or via Aulaweb. MARCO FERRARI Ricevimento: The students are able to book an appointment by phone, by mail or by aulaweb Exam Board MONICA MONTEFALCONE (President) PAOLO VASSALLO MARCO FERRARI (President Substitute) LESSONS Class schedule MARINE LANDSCAPE GEOMORPHOLOGY EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION The exam is made separately for the two modules. For both modules, the test consists of questions asked by the teacher on topics covered during the course. The exam is passed if the student has obtained an evaluation greater than or equal to 18 in both modules. The final evaluation will be the average of the score obtained in each module. Please refer to the specific AulaWeb application for this teaching for any updates due to changes in the health and epidemiological situation. ASSESSMENT METHODS Details on how to prepare for the exam and the learning level required for each topic will be provided at the beginning of the teaching and confirmed during the classes and exercises. Marine seascape ecology module: the oral exam starts from the critical report on a scientific article (available on Aulaweb). The exam is aimed at assessing the ability to understand a scientific text dealing with marine seascape ecology and to elaborate seascape information based on the knowledge of the fundamentals of the subject, the propensity to link the various topics, and the understanding of the applied aspects. Bio-geomorphology module: The oral exam will focus on the topics covered during the lectures and will aim to assess the achievement of the appropriate level of knowledge, the ability to use the theoretical concepts for the study of the marine system, if the student has acquired the ability to apply the theoretical notions to real situations. The ability to present the topics clearly and with correct terminology will also be evaluated.
