AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

This unit will cover the general principles for design and development of wearable devices for biomedical applications (diagnosis and monitoring of functions). This includes sensors, actuators and micro-controller programming

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

This unit intends to provide students with the essential tools to design wearable devices for medical applications.

At the end of this unit the student will be able to identify the correct sensor and/or actuator for a given application, and to design and implement an embedded system for signal acquisition and/or device control.

Combination of lectures, lab activities and project work

Microcontroller programming techniques 

The Arduino hardware family and IDE

Actuators types and actuator control

Sensors sensor types and signal acquisition 

Interrupts and timers 

Communication protocols: serial, I2C, ISP, Bluetooth
