CODE 65897 ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 3 INGEGNERIA MECCANICA 8784 (L-9) - LA SPEZIA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ING-IND/13 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION LA SPEZIA SEMESTER 2° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The course presents, in an integrated way, the use of a 3D CAD design tool of great interest in the mechanical industry and topics related to mechanical design with particular attention to the correlation between the shape of the components and their function. For this purpose, examples of mechanical transmissions and systems are discussed in detail in the course. The teaching methods are highly interactive, also based on extensive use of software tools for mechanical design both in the classroom with the support of the teacher and by an autonomous project-work of the students. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aim of the course is to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and operational tools to carry out geometric and functional design of mechanical systems, with CAD tools. At the end of the course students will be able to build both geometric and functional 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, students will be able to read and interpret drawings of mechanical assemblies and parts of medium complexity, identifying the main components and analyzing their morphology also in relation to their functional characteristics. They will also be able to develop 3D CAD models and related 2D drawings of parts and assemblies of mechanisms, transmissions and mechanical systems, using both commercial and application-specific components. PREREQUISITES courses: Technical drawing, Mechanics of machines, Fundamentals of machine design, Design of machines (suggested). TEACHING METHODS The course takes place in the computer room and includes lectures mixed with active exercises using the Creo Parametric software. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Introduction to CAD-CAE systems. Feature based solid parametric modeling, Part models: sketcher, constraints, features, solid parts, advanced features. Assembly models: how to insert parts, constraints, mobility, kinematic aspects, operations on parts, exploded views and animations. 2D drawings: views, sections, dimensions, tolerances. Analysis features; constraints, relations, and parameters. Exchange of geometric models between heterogeneous CAD-CAE software tools. Use of commercial component libraries. Mechanical design elements: embodiment design and choice and use of commercial and unified components. EXAMS EXAM DESCRIPTION Before being able to take the exam, students must carry out a mechanical design activity with the aid of a 3D CAD software. Once the project is approved, the exam consists in the discussion of the project. The exam can also be held on dates set by appointment. ASSESSMENT METHODS The assessment that the student has acquired the required skills is based on a careful analysis, also through intermediate reviews prior to the final exam, of the quality of the project developed in the Creo Parametric environment. The project is assigned to small groups of students (1-3 students, as a rule) who carry out it in relative autonomy and participate, with time intervals agreed with the teacher, to revisions and finally to the final discussion.
