The course is practical in nature and aims to make the student skilled and aware, through exercises in the classroom, in the use of computerized methodologies of three-dimensional restitution to be used in the historical-artistic field. The exercises concern the 3D reconstruction of elements of the interior or exterior of buildings or the 3D reconstruction of parts of the city environment. The course uses the 3D Studio Max program, used in a professional environment and free for educational purposes.
The course is practical in nature and aims to make the student skilled and aware, through exercises in the classroom, in the use of computerized methodologies of three-dimensional restitution to be used in the historical-artistic field.
The final objective of the course is to provide each student with the knowledge necessary to build a "three-dimensional" environment.
The learner will know how to build a 3D scene.
He will be able to judge which commands to use in 3D Studio max to get the best results.
He will be able to communicate the results of his project by returning the reconstruction and a report where he will specify the steps he has taken to reach the results shown.
Will be able to learn new methods of reconstruction through the composition of the concepts learned.
The achievement of the objectives will be verified with:
Having of a medium-computing power notebook with the Windows operating system.
The course is based on the "learning by doing" methodology. The teacher proposes exercises that are more complex from time to time and learners must reproduce the teacher's actions using their own notebook. Each exercise is finished and the next is passed when all the learners have finished it.
Classes are held in person. Attendance, although not compulsory, is recommended. No remote learning is available for this course.
The following content is aimed at both attending and non-attending students.
It is recommended: D. Derakhshani, R.L. Derakhshani, Autodesk 3ds Max 2013 Essentials, Sybex 2016.
All books describing the use of 3DStudio max for architecture are valid. To give some examples we cite:
The texts are aimed at both attending and non-attending students.

3D RENDERING FOR THE ANALYSIS OF ARTISTIC AND ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE
The exam will focus on the work done. It will consist of a presentation by the student, an analysis of the different steps taken and the quality of the final result of 3D rendering.
3D reconstruction of an environment performed in the classroom during lessons
3D reconstruction of an environment and relative rendering
Report (in pdf) describing the activities carried out and small historical research of the chosen subject.
The student have to carry out the reconstruction of an element; it could be a monument or a factory. The theme can be proposed by the student or assigned by the teacher.
The reconstruction may require a period of several days, within which the student can ask for clarifications on how to carry out the assigned task. When the student has finished, he introduces himself and explains how he carried out the reconstruction and he is questioned on specific points concerning his theme.
