OVERVIEW

The course aims to examine, on the basis of the relationship between the description of space and the phenomenon of power, the transformation of the content of geographical communication in dependence on changes in international relations

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course reconstructs the historical connection between geopolitical communication and the geographical tool. To this end, more insight is given to the analysis of the ways in which maps participate in the relationship between politics and media.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

The aim of the course is to provide the methodological tools to link the structure of geographical discourse to a specific political content. At the end of the course the student will be able to understand the instrumentality of geographical practice in social control . Furthermore, the student will acquire a greater ability to manage their social interactions with a collaborative attitude, constructive communication and dialogue skills

PREREQUISITES

Knowledge of basic geographic and cartographic vocabulary

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching activity will be carried out face-to-face in lectures in which the topics of the programme will be explained.Students will also be asked to present short papers in class on topics agreed upon with the lecturer.
 

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

In the course of teaching, some fundamental themes in the history of the relationship between geographical theory and its concepts and the practice of social control will be addressed

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The examination consists of an oral test: an interview on the topics of the syllabus and the lectures given in class.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

During the examination interview, the student's actual acquisition of what he/she has learnt will be verified both on the basis of individual study and by listening to the topics covered during the lectures. The assessment of learning aims to verify knowledge and skills related to the specific field of study. The exam will be graded between very good (28-29) and excellent (30-30 cum laude) if the student demonstrates, through clarity of presentation and conceptual mastery, that he/she has fully understood the topics dealt with; the exam will be graded between good (25-27) and satisfactory (23-24) if the student demonstrates, through the use of correct but not always appropriate language, that he/she has a less than thorough knowledge of the topics dealt with; the exam will be graded sufficient (18-22) if the student demonstrates an approximate preparation.
