AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide the students with the methodological and cultural basis for understanding the evolution of tourist consumption pattern and of the various forms of tourism firms with special attention to the last three centuries AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, students should be able to: identify the main stages of tourism development from the pre-industrial era to the dawn of the 21st century and understand how they fit within the period's broader economic and social changes; assess the importance of the factors that have affected the evolution of tourism demand and supply in the long run; apply the acquired knowledge on a conceptual and operational level with independent judgment; express themselves correctly using the technical language typical of the field. TEACHING METHODS Frontal lectures, occasional seminars on specific cases studies. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The most relevant topics will be: from pre-industrial economy to post-industrial society; the consumer revolution and the advent of mass society; the economic-historical analysis of tourism: issues and methods; from the Grand Tour to modern tourism; the evolution of tourism demand and supply in the 19th and 20th centuries; the Italian case: regional patterns and models; the case of the Liguria Region.
