OVERVIEW

Most of the electrical energy is not used in the form in which it is produced, transmitted and distributed: it is converted according to the needs of the user, to maximize its performance. Power electronics brings together knowledge of static conversion of electricity in industrial applications, for renewable energies, for transport and domestic, and in particular for the regulation of speed and torque in electrical drives in these areas.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Synthesis, modelling and simulation of systems for the management of renewable energy. Digital control of electronic power systems.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course the student must demonstrate that:

  1. know how to describe the mathematical model of a complex electrical system containing converters and related control and modulation systems and carry out simulations for the verification of operation with the support of an adequate calculation tool
  2. know how to develop in the laboratory the power system analyzed at the previous point, test its operation, perform the necessary measures and diagnose its correct functioning

PREREQUISITES

C programming language

Simulink programming

TEACHING METHODS

The teaching methods are oriented to stimulate the practical interest of the students, the aptitude for team work, the ability to solve problems. The lessons, held in computer lab and hardware laboratory, provide for direct involvement in the activities of students and teachers, also through division of tasks and responsibilities.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT
