Antenna systems for industrial, civil and biomedical applications AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The "Antennas" module provides knowledge and skills concerning antennas, with reference to both their working principles and their use in different applicative fields. The following main topics will be addressed. Fundamentals of electromagnetic radiation and antenna parameters. Linear antennas, aperture antennas, reflector antennas, printed antennas. Antenna Arrays. MIMO systems for multimedia communications. Smart and reconfigurable antennas. Wide band antennas for high–speed internet links. Antenna systems for industrial, civil and biomedical applications. The aim is to allow students to understand how to deal with antenna analysis and design. TEACHING METHODS Lectures SYLLABUS/CONTENT Fundamentals of electromagnetic radiation. Antenna radiation parameters. Linear antennas (dipoles, monopoles, etc). Aperture antennas. Reflector antennas. Printed antennas. Antenna Arrays. MIMO, smart and reconfigurable antennas. Link between antennas. This course contributes to the achievement of the following Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda: Objectives no. 8 and 9. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Lecture notes provided by the teacher.will be made available. The following reference books are also suggested: C. A. Balanis, Antenna Theory Analysis and Design. Wiley, 2005. S. J. Orfanidis, Electromagnetic Waves and Antennas, 2016. Available online at www.ece.rutgers.edu/~orfanidi/ewa/ Students with disabilities or learning disorders can use specific modalities and supports that will be determined on a case-by-case basis in agreement with the Delegate of the Engineering courses in the Committee for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities, as indicated in Further Information section.
