OVERVIEW

Periodontology  is the specialty of dentistry that studies supporting structures of teeth, as well as diseases and conditions that affect them.

Learning outcomes:

Provide adequate knowledge of the anatomical characteristics of the periodontium. To recognize the different forms of periodontal disease according to the most recent classifications. To familiarize  with the general principles of the non surgical therapy, the importance of maintenance therapy and re-evaluation after periodontal treatment.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student must:

· To know in depth the classification of the various types of periodontal disease

· Know the etiological causes and predisposing factors for periodontal diseases

· Be able to recognize and diagnose periodontal disease

Have acquired the correct terminology for the identification of periodontal disease and to be able to describe the procedures necessary for their treatment.
