CODE 83902 ACADEMIC YEAR 2023/2024 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 2 ARCHITETTURA 9915 (LM-4) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR ICAR/17 LANGUAGE Italian TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The course aims to train students in scientific and critical theory and in the practice of producing drawings and images for contemporary architectural design. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course provides knowledge and skills for the deepening and experimentation of representation methodologies for the critical analysis of the pre-existence and for the architectural design in its different scalar dimensions. With this in mind, the representation is seen as a way of addressing the complexity of the project, intended as an ex-novo act of creation or as a system of operations functional to cognitive processes affirming its value as an autonomous aesthetic subject expressive of forms of critical research. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will face a theoretical and practical path that will lead them to know the advanced scientific foundations (geometric, visual and perceptual) and the technical methods of using some updated tools for the creation of models, drawings and images (parametric modeling, photo insertion, rendering, panoramic photography, video). During the course, an exercise takes place which consists of the analysis and elaboration of an architectural project through parametric modeling tools, and its representation through rendering and photo-insertion techniques, including panoramic ones. The reworking will have to include an improvement in accessibility intended as an extension of functional and aesthetic use for everyone. People who attend the course will be able to develop transversal skills related to communication, teamwork and critical processing skills, to appropriately illustrate and motivate their work. People with disabilities or with DSA can apply for compensatory/dispensatory measures for the exam. As the modalities will be defined on a case-by-case basis, students are invited to contact the teachers in advance. PREREQUISITES / TEACHING METHODS The teaching is divided into frontal lessons and participatory lessons (critical discussions), to encourage active and collaborative teaching. For attending students, the assisted elaboration of models, drawings, photographs and static and dynamic images is foreseen. For the development of the transversal skills described in the learning objectives, a didactic organization for groups and the practice of critical confrontation are envisaged, through the expression of feedback, peer review, and World Café sessions. Some optional side activities are proposed to lead to a more advanced development of relational skills. THE COURSE ON AULAWEB IS UPDATED WEEKLY. SYLLABUS/CONTENT The course includes the following topics: Geometry and parametric models for architecture -Theoretical and applied aspects of modeling: mathematical and numerical representation, parametric modeling -Particular geometric aspects (geometries and symmetries, invariants and projective and topological geometry) and their applications to architecture -Curved lines and surfaces: modeling and use in architecture -Tessellations of the plane and the space and their application in the transition from geometric ideal forms to real architectural forms The representation of architecture and the relationship with the user and the context -Generation and insertion of a reworking of a project: critical, geometric and perceptive analyses -Theories of perception and multisensoriality: applications for the analysis of space and the configuration of architecture -Photo insertion and panoramic photography -Hybrid elaborations of drawings, photographs and images -Rendering, animation and video RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY The course uses excerpts from texts available in the library, including: -Pottman H.
