OVERVIEW

The course’s main objective is to apply and extend the concepts and methods developed in other courses, to study and understand the main economic characteristics of both the labour and the goods and services market. For both types of markets, strong emphasis will be given to the motives underlying the implementation of regulatory rules and competition policy.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide macroeconomic and microeconomic models of Labour Economics, that may help solve some of the current labour market issues.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Prof. Piga will teach the following topics

  1. Labour contract within the Organizational Architecture
  2. Asymmetric informations and its consequences
  3. Principal-Agent models
  4. Incentivizing contracts
  5. Other forms of labour contracts

Prof. Guerrazzi will teach the following topics:

  1. Supply of Labour
  2. Demand of Labour
  3. Competitive Equilibrium in the labour market
  4. Market imperfections and unemployment
  5. Regulation of  the labour market

Written examination containing questions of various kind: open-ended, essay based question and/or exercises to be solved either symbolically or numerically.

Students will be able to take two preliminary written exams immediately after each part of the course has been taught. The marks from the written exams will contribute to the final mark
