OVERVIEW

The course aims to encourage students to learn the fundamental knowledge about the energy sector and the main business strategies connected to it.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course focuses on the main strategic management tools for companies interested in the energy and ecological transition, as well as oriented towards sustainability. In particular, the course aims to achieve the following objectives: • Understand the social and environmental issues in place for change and applying business models that create shared value; • Analyze the main uncertainties that companies have to face in order to create sustainable scenarios for the development of new strategic options; • Have the sense of the factors that led companies to be successful in sustainability applied to the energy sector; • Examine the aspects that can make a sustainable business capable of solving major energy problems on a global level

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand and apply the theoretical and application tools learned. In particular, the expected learning outcomes are the following.

- Knowledge and understanding: students will be able to identify the qualitative and quantitative aspects that determine the energy sector at an international level and how the industry is evolving in the light of the changes from sustainability.

- Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: students will be able to use the knowledge learned to analyze the most appropriate business strategies for business development related to sustainable energy sectors.

- Autonomy of judgment: students must be able to use the acquired knowledge both on a conceptual and operational level with autonomous assessment skills and skills in the various application contexts.

- Communication skills: students must acquire the technical language typical of the discipline to communicate without ambiguity with specialist interlocutors in the energy and sustainability sector.

- Learning skills: students must develop adequate learning skills that allow them to continue using the assimilated tools also for future disciplines.

PREREQUISITES

Fundamental knowledge of management.

The central part of the class is lectures, seminars (held by entrepreneurs and managers of the energy sector), and classroom work activities carried out directly by the students with the teacher's supervision.

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Introduction

  • Definition, meaning, and characteristics of a sector;
  • strategies of the firms;
  1. The energy sector
    • qualitative analysis;
    • quantitative analysis;
  2. The strategy of the energy sectors
    • the most common strategies used;
    • emerging path and new direction in terms of strategic perspective;
  3. Sustainability for energy sectors
    • the environmental change;
    • the sustainability  in general;
    • sustainability and energy sector.

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam will take place orally. However, if there are more than 20 students, the teacher reserves the right to have a first written test and a second subsequent oral evaluation for all those students who have reached the assessment of at least 18. Moreover, if the oral examination is preceded by the written one, it will involve a final evaluation which will be no more or less than three marks compared to the written grade.

 

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam will evaluate students' knowledge of the topics covered during the course and their ability to think and analyze the problems about main course issues.
