Moreover, it will focus on energy markets and their special needs in term of regulation. Theoretical models and case studies will be analyzed in order to improve the comprehension of regulated markets, with a focus on enrgy markets. In particular, solid evidence and multiple anecdotes will be delivered in order show the concrete relevance of theoretical developements and to facilitate the understanding of reality. The relevance of the institutional capacity of the authorities for the optimal design of regulation will also be analyzed, together with policy implications of different regulation approaches. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to provide the tools for analyzing and interpreting the process of regulation of energy markets. The main skills students will acquire are basic knowledge of analytical tools of regulatory economics and knowledge of the functioning of economic sectors in the presence of a network, such as the energy ones. The theoretical models will be complemented with the analysis of case studies. The course aims to promote general and specific skills in the design, application and evaluation of regulatory policies, for the creation of new professional profiles with advanced knowledge for the analysis of economic and institutional mechanisms associated to energy markets. PREREQUISITES Knowledge of a undergaduate microeconomics course.
