The aim of the teaching is to provide the students with the knowledge of the sociological study of sport and physical activity, considering both the main theoretical perspectives of analysis and the different empirical dimensions in which they develop, paying specific attention to the relations between physical activity and health.
Starting from the presentation of some of the main theoretical approaches and concepts used by sociology to understand the features of society and its institutions, the teaching will allow the students to identify the social dimension of sport, paying specific attention to the symbolic-value, normative and communicative aspects.
At the end of the teaching, students will be able:
Frontal teaching, class in attendance.
In addition to the theoretical part, the teacher will be supported by athletes, trainers, or managers presenting their experience and relevant case-studies.
To integrate textbooks, the teacher will upload teaching materials on Aulaweb, sending also links to videos related to the topics discussed.
Classes are scheduled in the second semester.
The first part of the teaching consists in a general introduction to Sociology, dealing also with the processes at the origin of modern Western society. After a presentation of some of the main theoretical approaches used by sociology, the teaching will define the features of sport and physycal activity in contemporary society.
