AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES The aims of this part of the course are: A. to revise and further develop the theme of rational numbers (fractions, decimal representation, representation on the number line); B. to revise basic geometry notions (length and surface measurements; elementary plane and space geometry concepts). Both subjects will be treated with reference to teaching in grades K to 5. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES The course is aimed at: 1) revising basic arithmetics to be taught in grades K-5; more specifically, the following themes will be addressed: additive and multiplicative structures; algorithms for subtraction and division. 2) developing didactical competetences in mathematics teaching (being aware of didatical issues connected with the mathematical content; being able to perform a priori analysis of the tasks) 3) developing competences in planning, implementing, critically revising teaching sequences and carrying out efficient assessment strategies. TEACHING METHODS The lessons will be carried out in form of laboratory (on guided worksheets) with elements of theoretical reflection relating to the addressed issues. The peer evaluation will make allow to work on advanced level literacy competences, advanced level personal competences, advanced level social competences, advanced level learning to learn competence. The think pair share methodology will allow to work on basic level literacy competences, basic level personal competences and basic level social competences. Students who do not attend a class are expected to carry out the proposed activities at home and upload them on aulaweb. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Additive and subtractive structures; proto-conceptualization of the operations (for kindergarten); conceptual aspects arithmetic operations and calculation techniques, in relation to solving problems (for primary school). The aforementioned contents will be treated in reference to current National Guidelines and to the related teaching and learning problems, with a special focus on linguistic and representational aspects. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY Worksheets and reading materials will be provided during the course on aulaweb. Recommended reading: Sabena, Martignone, Ferri, Robotti, (2019).
