SYLLABUS/CONTENT Pinocchio: From Origins to Rewritings The course will be divided into two modules: 1. Pinocchio: Origins and Themes of a Children's Classic (Prof. Andrea Lazzarini) Pinocchio, first published in the "Giornale per i bambini" between 1881 and 1883, has been described as a case of an ‘accidental masterpiece’. This part of the course will explore the main themes, origins, and structure of this children’s classic, relating it to the broader works, both for children and beyond, of Carlo Collodi. 2. Rewritings of Pinocchio (Prof. Veronica Pesce) Pinocchio is a remarkable literary case that seems to continue living its own life, enjoying an inexhaustible popularity: from numerous translations that reach almost the entire world to theatrical and cinematic adaptations, from theme parks to works of art (not to mention the world of illustrations), from advertising to the toy industry.
