CODE 67099 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 2 cfu anno 3 SCIENZE MOTORIE, SPORT E SALUTE 8744 (L-22) - SAVONA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR BIO/09 TEACHING LOCATION SAVONA SEMESTER 1° Semester MODULES Questo insegnamento è un modulo di: TRAINING AND FUNCTIONAL EVALUATION OF THE ATHLETE TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW As a part of the integrated course, the teaching of "Sport Physiology" provides the elements to understand the physiological functioning of organs and systems during sporting exercise. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES In this teaching module, the physiological aspects related mainly to sports exercise are explored in depth, in particular: changes in cardiac and vascular activity, the reaction to physical exercise, variations in respiratory parameters and ventilation control, muscle metabolism, endocrinological changes induced by exercise, thermoregulation, physiological activity in extreme conditions (in water and at high altitude). AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Students will learn: the physiology of movement and muscular adaptations induced by training; the functioning of the energy systems and the endocrine system and the role they have in physical performance and training. Students will also learn about cardio-respiratory function during exercise and the cardio-respiratory adaptations induced by training. TEACHING METHODS Frontal lessons. Any Student with documented Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), or with any special needs, should contact the Lecturer(s) and to the dedicated SLD Representative in the Department before class begins, in order to liaise and arrange the specific teaching methods so that the learning aims and outcomes may be met. SYLLABUS/CONTENT Know the structure and function of skeletal muscle. Know the motor system and in particular spinal reflexes and the control of voluntary movement. Know the concept of posture and maintaining balance. Understanding the adaptations induced by resistance training and the mechanisms underlying the increase in strength. Learn about muscle pain. Learn about bioenergetics. Understand how to measure energy expenditure during exercise. Know fatigue and the causes of fatigue. Know the hormonal regulation of physical exercise. Understanding training-induced metabolic adaptations. Understanding cardiovascular control and respiratory regulation during exercise. Understanding cardio-respiratory adaptations induced by training. Understand how to optimize sports performance through sports training. RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY JH Wilmore and D.L. Costill.
