OVERVIEW

The course aims to explore the world of sport and its interaction with the society since the first civilizations of Mesopotamia to the contemporary age, in order to understand the educational value of sport in parallel with the socio-cultural context which is inserted in. The course will reflect on the sports’ relationship with politics and will examine the economic implications of contemporary sport.

AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The History of Sport, inserted in a broader integrated course of “Methods of physical activities - History of Sport – Anthropology”, constitutes a necessary premise for opening the student’s horizon to the vast world of sport, which, using the expression of the French sociologist Marcel Mauss, is a “total social fact”, i.e. a phenomenon capable of influencing and determining various spheres of society in all historical periods. This module therefore intends to contribute to provide the student with skills to operate in the field of physical activities of an educational, playful and sporting nature that are more effective for recreational and socialization purposes.

AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • To understand the main issues of the discipline and to follow the events and processes.
  • To interpret critically the data and issues relating to the subject of study and reflection on the main topics, forming independent judgments on them.
  • To communicate, with command of language, information, and issues related to the history of the sport.
  • Acquisition of the main basic tools and the ability to use them so that you can deal autonomously further studies in the subject field and in the professional life.

SDGs

This course contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.

Each sub-test consists of 15 questions, each of which has a value of 2 points out of thirty. Every single sub-test is passed with 18/30, i.e., with 9 correct answers.
