CODE 80620 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 6 cfu anno 2 BIOENGINEERING 11159 (LM-21) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR MED/42 LANGUAGE English TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW The topics range covered in the Applied Hygiene course address the principles of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine required for the prevention of disease and the promotion of health which are needed for the attainment of the highest degree of well-being. In addition, the course aims to orient students in their future tasks for achieving health goals and collaborating with public health professionals. New molecular biology techniques in the fields of genomics, proteomics and epigenomics offer the possibility of developing a new series of biomarkers to evaluate the genotoxic risk to which humans are continuously exposed. The last decades have given rise to the era of omics sciences and through the analysis of gene expression through high-throughput methods it will be possible to achieve a better understanding of the mechanisms of action of environmental xenobiotics. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES This course aims to provide essential knowledge relating to: the concept of health, protection and promotion of health, health education; identification and control of the causes of disease and risk factors in the environment; including the epidemiology and prevention of the main infectious and chronic-degenerative diseases.
