CODE 104749 ACADEMIC YEAR 2024/2025 CREDITS 4 cfu anno 2 ROBOTICS ENGINEERING 10635 (LM-32) - GENOVA SCIENTIFIC DISCIPLINARY SECTOR M-PSI/01 LANGUAGE English TEACHING LOCATION GENOVA SEMESTER 1° Semester TEACHING MATERIALS AULAWEB OVERVIEW For a robot and for natural intelligent system, perception and actions are fundamental capabilities necessary during the interaction with the environment and with other agents in the environment. When interacting with humans, humans are capable of employing mental models of the human counterpart they are interacting with in order to anticipate and predict. Such capabilities in cognitive science are based on how the other`s actions using common, shared categories, and perceiving the environment changes as function of the others. AIMS AND CONTENT LEARNING OUTCOMES For a robot, perception and actions are fundamental, defining features of stereotyped or purposive behaviour. Especially when interacting with humans, robots must be capable of employing mental models of the human they are interacting with, perceiving the environment and their actions using common, shared categories, and act in a credible manner. This subject will provide advanced knowledge and theoretical insights about these matters. AIMS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES Humans reuse such perceptual awareness in order to flawlessly act in the environment and together with the others. The outcome of such interaction impacts on all the agents involved also from the psychological point of view. Studying such processes that have deep roots in psychology and cognitive science might benefit from the use of robotics platform since such process can be better studied with the robotic agent and the robotic partner can better interact. This subject will provide advanced knowledge and theoretical insights about these matters. TEACHING METHODS The teaching is based on lectures with the professors in a more traditional modality. At least for one in-lecture evaluation where the professor supports the teaching differently. SYLLABUS/CONTENT 1. Introduction to Psychology of Perception and Action 2.
