AIMS AND CONTENT

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Provide an adequate knowledge of the chemistry (synthesis, structure, reactivity) of heterocyclic systems, of high importance both in the biological/pharmacological and industrial/technological fields. Taking inspiration from the behavior of some representative heterocycles, some insights into the involved reaction mechanisms will also be provided.

TEACHING METHODS

6 ECTS of lectures (including exercises).

SYLLABUS/CONTENT

Classifications, nomenclature, properties, reactivity of heterocyclic compounds. Classic and modern synthetic approaches. In particolar, the main heteroaromatic systems will be treated more  extensively, while for cycles of small (3 and 4 atoms) or medium (7 and 8) size, only the more important fetures will be highlighted.

Also the forming cycles methodologies will be discussed and classified as cyclizations or cycloadditions, proceeding according to ionic or pericyclic mechanisms.

RECOMMENDED READING/BIBLIOGRAPHY

No particular texts are recommended.

LESSONS

LESSONS START

From October 14, 2024

Class schedule

The timetable for this course is available here: Portale EasyAcademy

EXAMS

EXAM DESCRIPTION

The exam (oral) will last about one hour, writing on the blackboard and discussing with the appropriated terminology the treated subjects

ASSESSMENT METHODS

The exam (oral) will last about one hour, and it will be ascertained the acquisition of nomenclature, terminology, reactivity of compounds treated in this course, as well as the ability to comment an article from the recent literature.

FURTHER INFORMATION

Students who have valid certification of physical or learning disabilities on file with the University and who wish to discuss possible accommodations or other circumstances regarding lectures, coursework and exams, should speak both with the instructor and with Professor Sergio Di Domizio (sergio.didomizio@unige.it), the Department’s disability liaison.
